The Travelling Life of Silvan Colani
April 2003 - Boracay, Philippines
Well, it's still the best beach in the world - Boracay! Sure, it's getting busier - particularly over Easter, when it was a real zoo - but you just can't beat that white sand, laid-back attitude, cheap San Miguel, great nightlife and above all, the most spectacular sunset every night.
To be honest, I was lazy, very lazy. I was even too lazy to take pictures, which means this report will be very short.
I spent ten days there with my good friend Danilo, his girlfriend Andrea and my godson Noah with whom I built endless traps in the sand every night, waiting for unsuspecting island dwellers to fall into. The most strenuous activity was playing Cho Dai Dee, and you can check out the various punishments on my gallery. Apart from that, there was a bit of diving, an hour of windsurfing and lots of San Miguel.
One important achievement has nevertheless been made at Cocomanga's, one of Boracay's most established watering holes. Cocomangas has a longstanding tradition named "Still standing after 15", which refers to a combination of 15 shooters which must be drunk in order to have your name engraved on a long "wall of fame". Also, your country will rack up an additional point for every successful drunkard.
As Admiral of the Liechtenstein Princely Navy, I was shocked to find Liechtenstein with a poor tally of only two points, finding our proud country along the likes of Afghanistan, Lesotho, Estonia and - heaven forbid - North Korea. On Easter Monday, it was decided to right this wrong and thanks to the brave efforts of Boracay surf-shop owner Simone and myself we doubled the score to four, thereby advancing ahead of Argentina, Fiji and Saudi Arabia. It was a grueling task, and I spare you the details - it's the victory the counts, anyway. We salute the Prince and Country!
